Announcements
Aktion Club Ice Cream Social and Membership Drive a Great Success!
On Monday, March 15th, the Ripon Aktion Club held their annual membership drive inviting the staff and consumers of Diverse Options to enjoy an ice cream sundae. They had a choice of Mint Chocolate Chip, Chocolate or Sugar Free Vanilla and of course, the Mint Chocolate Chip was a hit. Ripon Culvers donated the Chocolate, Strawberry and Carmel toppings to keep costs down and $1 donations were accepted to cover the cost of the ice cream. Overall, it was a huge success and a lot of fun. A big thank you goes out to Tonya Alling, Kristy Sadlon, Audrey Wesner and Rich Scamehorn for helping out with this event.
Family Video Supports Camp Wawbeek
This Saturday March 20, the proceeds from the rentals of two featured videos will be donated to Kiwanis to be presented to Camp Wawbeek in the Dells. The Easter Seals Camp will host kids with disabilities. This will compliment the recent Mardi Gras Bowling Tournament held at Ripon Plaza Bowl. The features are “The Taking of Pelham 123” starring Denzel Washington and John Travolta, an action thriller. The other video is an animation “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs”. There will be plenty of copies brought from three other Family Videos thanks to Tanya, district manager, and local managers Mark and Leah. Mark your calendars and come out and rent these two great videos on Saturday March 20th. Support our kids with special needs!
Relay for Life Pointers
Mother Bunny Marge Burling is getting all of us Nooners geared up for raising money for the Relay For Life Event being held June 11 – 12. Today, she listed 10 ways to raise $100, such as: put in $20 and ask five friends to match OR put in $5 and ask 20 friends to match. Either way you do it, it works!
Highest on the Team of Low Score Medallists!
Ian Stepleton received his “Lowest Team Bowling Score” medal today. In the 9 pin tournament, he passed all of our scores and received a personal best of 215. Congratulations Ian!
Great Conversations
The 2nd Annual Great Conversations Dinner is being held on Friday, March 19, at Great Hall of Ripon College. Fabulous food (choice of three entrees). Stimulating conversation (choice of 16 table topics from broadband to beer). Wonderful cause (the Education Foundation of Ripon). It all can be yours for less than the price of a sporting event or concert ticket! Treat yourself and a spouse/friend to a unique evening that will satisfy your palate, your brain, and your community's schools. Queen of Spades 50/50 Raffle
$264.50 was in the pot and Steve Sorenson’s number was drawn by Megan Wuske. He pulled the Jack of Hearts. Better luck next time Steve! There are now 28 cards left and the Queen is still hiding.
Today’s Program: Mayoral Candidate Deano Pape
When Steve Sorenson introduced our program speaker, he stated “The Forensics Program is living and breathing because of Deano’s dedication”! Well, he sure was right. Deano is running for Mayor of the City of Ripon, against Gary Will. They recently had a debate at Maplecrest Assisted Living and it was so exciting, a few residents fell asleep listening to them.
Deano grew up on a hog farm in Iowa and knew he was not going to follow in his father’s footsteps on the farm. He graduated from Central Iowa College and moved to Ripon. He has been teaching at Ripon College for 12 years and is very involved with numerous community organizations. After hearing a comment made that he didn’t agree with at a City Counsel meeting, he decided to run for alderman and make a change.
What will Deano bring to Ripon? He will bring three important qualities to the city as Mayor: listening ears, common sense and experience. With many years of experience in the Chamber of Commerce and City Counsel, he is very optimistic for Ripon’s future. He is willing to talk to anyone about their concerns; just as long as it is not griping. Deano stated that it's okay to have a complaint, as long as you have a proposed solution to accompany it. Good luck Deano!
