This Week’s Meeting
Attendance: 15 members and 2 guests
Guests
Bill and Mervi Bannasch from the Green Lake Kiwanis Club were our guests as well as our program presenters.
Announcements
Board Meeting
The board will meet this Thursday at noon in the Mihaly Room. Board members and officers are expected to attend if possible. Any other member is welcome to attend.
Brat Fry
The Ripon Noon Kiwanis Club held a brat fry at Pick n Save, which netted $690. Profits from fundraisers allow our club to provide scholarships for college-bound high school seniors and to fulfill other components of our foundation’s outreach efforts. Thanks greatly to all for helping make a successful brat fry.
Aktion Club
The Ripon Aktioneers had a busy weekend. On Saturday May 1 they partnered with the Ripon Noon Kiwanis Club, the Ripon Early Bird Kiwanis Club, and the Rotary Club to clean the interior of the Little White Schoolhouse, Birthplace of the Republican Party, as well as the lawn and grounds surrounding it. On Sunday May 2 the Ripon Noon Kiwanis Club partnered with the Ripon Early Bird Kiwanis Club to provide an afternoon of bowling and pizza for 30 adults with developmental disabilities, who are consumers of the agency, which sponsors the Ripon Aktion Club. There were two special Aktioneers, Jennifer Gallitz and Clarence Johnson, that stepped in and helped the bowlers that couldn’t bowl on their own. What great examples of “service” to the community and friends!
Builders Club
Tonya Alling met with Ripon Middle School teacher Tim Scottberg last week and set a timeline for chartering the Builders Club. An informational meeting is slated for May 20 at 3:30, with weekly meetings thereafter. The first order of business is to elect officers, approve the bylaws and send in the charter application. Tim is looking forward to joining Kiwanis and being active in the summer when he isn’t teaching. Tonya will partner with Tim next year to be co-advisors to the Builder’s Club. RMS Principal Tom Hoh is excited to launch this service leadership program.
Ripon Noon Kiwanis Variety Show
The Variety Show theme is “Forever Young”. The show will be held on Tuesday and Thursday, June 1 and 3 at Ripon High School. You can help by acting in a skit. You can help by singing in the chorus on "Forever Young" and "Dust in the Wind" and "Ripon, My Home Town". You can help by selling tickets and posting posters to publicize. We'll need the help of many to entertain our town with a good show.
Maria Dietrich will direct us in the chorus. Aaron Becker will play keyboard and Bruce Stephenson plays bass. We have several good acts ready to go. If you have a suggestion of good Ripon talent, let me know. If you can be in the chorus, I can send you the music ahead of time. Let's make it a good time for Ripon!
Practice schedule for chorus is:
Thursday May 20 Immanuel United Methodist 6:30 pm
Sunday May 23 Immanuel 4 pm
Tuesday May 25 Ripon High School 6:30 pm
Thursday May 27 Immanuel 6:30 pm
Ripon Summer Players
Nooners Helga Rikkers and Jack Christ will be performing. June 3 is also the Kiwanis Variety Show. The Aktion Club will be needing help with their song, so if anyone can help, please contact Norm Loomer or John Roesch.

Happy Bucks
John Roesch is happy that he and his lovely wife Celia returned from their two-month getaway in South Carolina safely.
Norm Loomer had five special happy bucks today. Last Thursday his dad was admitted into ICU and by Friday morning his heart had stopped. On Friday, he and Sue brought his mom to the hospital to say goodbye. After five hours, mom went back to the Barrett House. On Saturday morning, Norm received a call with shocking news that his mom had passed away during the night. He remembers that his mom was always concerned about others and she had a great life. Norm’s dad is now doing well and was released from the hospital.
Herm Leitz is happy to be hooking the Kiwanis Brat Fry trailer up to his truck once again.
Mellisa Wipijewski is happy because not only is it a beautiful day BUT ALSO she became an official Licensed Funeral Director. Congratulations Missy!
Kristy Sadlon is happy because Missy is now a fellow Licensed Funeral Director, she is happy because her sister-in-law was released from the hospital after a week of surgery and complications. Also, she is happy that the Aktioneers did such a great job the past weekend with their service projects and the weekend is now over and that John Roesch returned safely from his trip. He was greatly missed!
John Olson is happy to tell a joke: A lady went to doctor because she started passing pennies, then nickels, then dimes. She asked the doctor what was happening to her. The doctor replied, “No worries, you are just going through your change of life.”
Steve Sorenson is happy that John Roesch is back from his trip from South Carolina and he is super happy for spending the weekend in Decorah, Iowa. He also comments, “It’s a wonderful time to be alive”.
Bill Bannasch is happy that it is a beautiful day for he and his wife to ride their motorcycle and to have lunch with all of us.
Tonya Alling is happy for attending an Interclub with Circle K and sharing great ideas. She is happy to have celebrated Len’s 84th birthday with Len and Liz at Norton’s. Also, she is happy that April is over because of all of the service projects that were lined up. All of it went smoothly and successfully and she sure is happy it is now May!
Queen of Spades 50/50 Raffle
There was a break in the action this week with the Queen of Spades 50/50 raffle. Next week, the pot starts at $309.50.
Today’s Program: "Look Twice – Save a Life”

Bill Bannasch, Wisconsin District MAD Safety Awareness Coordinator and Mervi Bannasch, GWRRA Rider Safety Educator provided a program about the largest single manqué motorcycle organization in the world, Gold Wing Road Riders Association. GWRRA was established in 1977, has over 80,000 members and its commitment is on educating its members about motorcycle safety and riding. It promotes Rider education training and numerous Safety Seminars to improve skills of riding.
Actions by motorists in everyday traffic pose the greatest risk to motorcyclists. Bill and Mervi shared some driving hazards and typical situations found on the road daily, to help motorist become more aware of “What to look for” and help us understand the problems that motorcyclists have with being seen by motorists.
